I never had any doubts he'd be reelected. With his record Obama should have been down 10 points in the polls. The Republicans are a party in disarray, with no message and no candidate for the public to embrace.

The Republican party has spent a billion dollars in an attempt to sell the American public a 'package" rather than a "product".

The Democratic Party focussed on the "product" something tangible rather than the package. The result 306 electoral votes for a "product" 206 for the "package".

If I were Karl Rove or any of the other Republicans who spent time energy and wads of money on the package, I would be pretty pissed off on my ROI, given there were other more qualified Republicans to run for President!

Regardless of whose in the White House, we, the people want responsive government, not gridlock, subterfuge and conflict. I trust we can move in that direction now. Soundbites from Boehner and Reed suggest that is possible. Time is of the essence!

Charles, if you think there is going to be cooperation in Washington, I have a bridge I want to sell you. First and foremost for every politician is remaining in power. Say what you have to say and do what you have to do, but you must keep your eye on the reelection prize. A good start to cleaning up that cesspool in DC would be term limits for everyone. Career politicians shouldn't exist. Put in your 4 years and get the hell out. If you can't make a difference in that time, you never will.

Obama is going to have to do a complete 180 and then Lead to bridge this divide. It's going to take a new direction than the one we're on currently. People are going to have to spit out the taste of all the free government stuff if this Union is to survive. I don't think he's the man to do it. I hope I'm wrong, but we have no choice now.

Problem is, Obama caused this divide. He played the race card, the gender card, and the class card. That's what got him reelected. He's not going to change what has been a successful political strategy.

People are going to have to spit out the taste of all the free government stuff if this Union is to survive.

Not a chance that'll happen. Freebies and government handouts are political crack. Once the electorate gets a taste, they want more and more. Just one example was an interview on the news yesterday with a recent college grad. She was thrilled that Obama won because she was under the impression he was going to erase all college loan debts and she would be able to skip out on the $35K she borrowed. That's the new mentality that is pervasive in our society.

Oh boy...let me rant for just a moment...

Nearly 20K votes in Philadelphia and not a single one cast for Romney? 99% Democrat in Cuyahoga County Ohio? What about all those polls that showed Romney & Obama tied (or Romney ahead) the very week before the election? Then there's the curious case of the packed Romney/Ryan venues and the half-filled Obama appearances. What about the Republican election observers being tossed out of their polling places? Or the Obama propaganda on the walls of the polling places?

Gentlemen (and ladies), I submit to you that this election was a Democrat hack-job (i.e. it was STOLEN).

I believe that Mitt Romney conceded too easily, and that Republican lawyers should flood every "swing" state Obama won to verify the outcome of the elections in each state.

Say what you want. This is what I believe.

Wish that were true, David. It would be easily fixable. Unfortunately, it's more complex than that. The American electorate are morons. How on earth do we fix that?? :o

All we can do is elect Senators and Representatives who will push back against the "free stuff" crowd (Democrats). Whether this happens here and now or down the road (a la Greece), it's bound to happen. We can't sustain the status quo of 50% (or more) of the populace living on the backs of the other 50%.

People aren't working, but they're eating, driving cars and talking on cellphones. 50 years ago, that would have been an affront to most Americans. We need to bring back the shame of accepting government handouts. I say end all social programs now. Local churches and community organizations will take up the slack in helping those truly in need. For the lazy entitlement slobs, substitute the food stamp debit card for a community gruel pot. It's more than they deserve.

David, the free stuff is exactly what gets politicians elected. And with the success Obama has had using this strategy, don't think for a minute that it's going away anytime soon. I shudder at the thought, but this country is moving in an altogether different direction. Where handouts are considered a right and personal responsibility is mocked as "old school thinking". I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.

My point is simply this: at this time, in this country, I still believe there are more "makers" than "takers." If the makers get active in electing real fiscal and social conservatives to offices small and large, we'll see a push back against the out of control government spending on entitlements and "free stuff" for the vunnables who mindlessly vote for Democrats every damned time.

We all have to get involved. It's no longer a matter of waiting another 2 or 4 years for the problem to correct itself.

Things have changed, Steve. But for the worse. The can has been kicked down the road once again, (was there ever any doubt?). Debt ceiling increased another trillion or so, with promises to create a few more committees, sigh, so the problem can be fixed prior to the next (moveable) deadline in February.:angry:

The fix is simple. Don't spend more than you take in. But of course the powers that be have other ideas ie. Fed Reserve and Wall Street are having a good ol' time. Obama, congress & senant are just tools. This is the true bubble today and the debt is on the backs of the tax payer and the global market.
