I have never read anything put out by the National Association of Realtors with less than a highly skeptical eye. It is, after all, their job to get out the message that "there has never been a better time to buy than now".
The Realtors are at it again! And they're getting desperate! I saw the propaganda the California Association of Realtors sent out to its members this month. It actually says to "inform" buyers that the market has bottomed-out and that they should buy now before prices rise. The handout they recommend be given to buyers says that home values should appreciate at a 3-6% rate over the next year, which could mean "a difference of several thousand dollars." I'd love to see their data...
However, in the same letter, they recommend that sellers be "informed" that home values are continuing to decline. "The CAR estimates that home values may continue to decline over the next twelve month period, which could mean
a difference of several thousand dollars" (emphasis added). So which is it? Are values going up or down? Maybe it depends on who you're trying to convince...
If I can get a digital copy I'll post it here. At least it's entertaining.
